San Gimignano is a small walled medieval hill-top town in Tuscany. It is mainly famous for its medieval architecture, especially its towers. Because of its position atop a hill the skyline can be seen for several miles outside the town. There are many churches in San Gimignano, the two main ones are the Collegiata (former cathedral) and Sant'Agostino, housing a wide series of artworks from some of the main Italian renaissance artists. The Communal Palace is currently home of the Town Gallery. From the palace the Dante's Hall where civil wedding ceremonies takes place. San Gimignano is also famous for the white wine grown in the area: Vernaccia di San Gimignano. As a matter of fact, wine has been being produced in the area for hundreds of years, perhaps even as early as the Etruscans. A wedding event in San Gimignano will be remembered through the ages.
